Step One

This series intertwines the five stages of grief with the symbolism of tarot, creating a visual representation of the profound emotional toll addiction takes on both the individual and their loved ones. It aims to reflect the paradox of grieving someone who is still alive and the emotional journey of loving someone through the painful, slow process of self-destruction.

Each piece represents a different stage of grief—denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance—using tarot symbolism as a framework. The tarot serves as a mirror, not only for the universal emotions tied to loss but also for the mysticism and uncertainty that often surround addiction. Through this series, I aimed to capture the paradox of grieving someone who is still alive and the emotional journey of loving someone through the painful, slow process of self-destruction.
